A gift from Bernard Cohen enabled us to purchase 24 new books, now in the Library for your reading pleasure.  Come in and browse, check out a book, read, enjoy and spread the word.  What better way to say "Thank you" to Bernie Cohen.

 

Among the NON-FICTION books are:

 

THE FORGER:  by Cioma Schonhaus.  An amazing account of a young man in Berlin who evaded arrest by the Nazis while forging documents so that others might escape to safety.

 

THE ZOOKEEPER'S WIFE: by Diane Ackerman.  A true story in which the keepers of the Warsaw Zoo saved the lives of hundreds of people from the hands of the Nazis after the Allied bombers nearly destroyed the zoo.

 

PRISONERS:  by Jeffery Goldberg.  "They met in 1990 during the first Palestinian uprising.  One was an American Jew who served as a prison guard in the largest prison in Israel, the other, his prisoner, Rafiq.....

 

Among the FICTION works are:

 

RASHI'S DAUGHTERS:  BOOK I: JOHEVED: by Maggie Anton.  Set in eleventh century France, it paints a portrait of the daughters as young girls growing up in Rashi's home and a rare view of the family and religious life of the Ashkenazic Jews of that time.

 

SNOW IN AUGUST: by Pete Hamill:  A story of an elderly Rabbi and a young boy who form a close friendship.  The Rabbi fascinates the boy with ancient stories of wisdom and the boy fills the Rabbi with the wonders of the game of baseball, till........

 

THE GHOST OF HANNAH MENDES: by Naomi Ragan.  A five star review:

".....this book showed me that religion is more than just faith, it is a tradition passed down by family.  It was outstanding because not only did it teach me what I didn't care to learn, it put in some extra fun and a love story too."
