The MizpahGarden is a project ongoing since 1996. Begun as a way to get members involved and create usable and attractive space where there was none, the Garden of Lifewas dedicated in 1999. Already, our Garden has appeared twice on the Chattanooga Garden Club’s summer Garden Tour, being the first non-residence to appear so. Ruth Longway and Susan O’Hara Barack are the creative force behind the Garden. Twice annually, in the Spring and Fall, there is a Garden Work Day, where weeding and planting take place. The Garden is maintained as well by our Temple custodian, Clair Roth. If you would like to join this ‘labor of love,’ please call Herb Cohn at 877-3813. Thank you.

2008 Volunteer Day at Mizpah
“WORKERS MADE MIZPAH READY FOR RABBI TEPPER”
Thank you all so very much for coming out on a lovely Sunday morning to spruce up our offices, our closets, our library storage space, our copying room and our gift shop. First came the Rabbi’s office…. a mere job of moving the four-piece desk around. It began with Richard Zachary and Sid Simon studying with a practiced eye how to take on the task. Then Herb Cohn came in to watch and wait till he was needed to provide muscle. After much conversation, measuring, and studying the phone and computer outlets, in walked Angie Wilson. With a commanding voice, she told them exactly what she wanted for her new Rabbi. Then calling in extra troops in the form of three able grammar school boys, they achieved their goal. Choir members Rhonda Seeber and Helen Smith sorted years of sheet music and books…tossing out and boxing up to achieve their goal of storage space for choir notebooks.Bev Coulter, Dana Banks and Sue Cohn boxed and labeled current storage items in office closets. Louise Kushner and Teddi Mendel assembled a membership notebook for Rabbi Tepper to help him learn about all our families. David and Paula Israel..David our official cassette and disk inspector/tosser out; and Paula once again upstairs moving our ReligiousSchool! Janet Perfetti and Karen Simon straightened up our copier room, making space for Gift Shop storage. And a final cheer to Henry Poss who worked tirelessly to enhance the working space in the Administrator’s office.
The First Friday of October was
SIMCHAT TORAH!
WE Heard our younger congregants recite the Shema for Consecration,
WE Paraded around the room with our Torah scrolls,
and
We Unrolled one Torah all the way around the Sanctuary
as we read the end of Deuteronomy and start again at the beginning of Genesis!
We had many congregants help hold up the scroll as it was unrolled around the room.
Following services, we enjoyed a delicious Cabbage Roll Dinner in Feinstein Hall!
